My Word Journey on COMPASSION

1828 Dictionary: A suffering with another; painful sympathy; a sensation of sorrow excited by the distress or misfortunes of another; pity; commiseration. Compassion is a mixed passion, compounded of love and sorrow; at least some portion of love generally attends the pain or regret, or is excited by it. Extreme distress of an enemy even changes enmity into at least temporary affection.

Dictionary.com: A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

LDS.org: And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
                    -Matthew 14:14

So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
                    -Matthew 20:34

Quotes: If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
-Dalai Lama
Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.
-Stevie Wonder

My Definition: I love how the 1828 definition says that it’s a mixed passion of love and sorrow, and I think that’s true. You feel sorrow for the person, but at the same time, you feel love towards them so you want to help them. :)
